Power Point on Whitman and Dickinson

28th June, 2010 - Posted by Christine Perrin - 5 Comments

This power point which  I used at the Society for Classical Learning Conference on Saturday samples poems from each writer, gives short biographical information, tracks their formal preferences and style, and gives assignments you can use in your classroom to help students understand their work more deeply (from the inside out).

Hi, Christine. I’m a literature teacher in Arizona, and I’ll be using your book with my 9th grade poetry students this year. I was wondering….where can I find the teacher’s manual for The Art of Poetry? I didn’t see it available on the Classical Academic Press website. Thanks for your help. I’m really looking forward to using your book in our class this year!

Hi Stacia,

Thanks so much for letting me know about this. It delights me. The Teacher’s Edition is being printed right now. I’ll find out the date when it will be available. I can give you an advance pdf of the first few chapters if you run into timing trouble.

Sounds great. Classes start next week, so if you could e-mail me the first few chapters, I would really appreciate it. My e-mail address is smdenhart@gmail.com. Thank you!

Christine,
Any word on when the teacher’s manual will be available? I would *really* appreciate the advance pdf if you could send it to me.

Thanks,
Stacia

Hi Christine,

I have NEVER been a fan of poetry and neither have my kids. But I thought it best to “learn to appreciate” poetry at some fundamental level. Enter your book. Wow! I actually am beginning to like poetry, as well as my children. I love the “Learning to Read Closely” sections. I get so much more out of the poem. Anyway, thanks for the book. It would have been nice to have the TM earlier but we’re about half way with the book (we’re doing the intense unit study schedule.

Peace,
Deborah
